Facade Inspection Safety Program (Local Law 11)
New York City has what is called the Façade Inspection Safety Program (FISP), previously known as Local Law 11.
This law requires buildings six stories or more in NYC to have their exterior walls periodically inspected for safety and compliance. A Professional Engineer or Architect must conduct this type of inspection and provide the needed documentation.

Retaining Wall Inspections (Local Law 37)
Retaining Wall Inspections (Local Law 37) has been a provision in NYC Local Law since approximately 2005, after a series of deaths and injuries resulting from retaining wall failures.
The procedures and report requirements of Local Law 37 are very similar to the FISP law. Inspection and engineer reports must be submitted to the DOB every five years. While much of these two laws are very similar, there are critical differences to each of them.
